Position Summary

FACULTY POSITION IN GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING. The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Portland State University invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in Geotechnical Engineering to begin September 2017. While the target of hiring is at the assistant professor level, outstanding applicants may be considered at all levels (associate/full professor). Candidates who would contribute to the diversity of our faculty are strongly encouraged to apply.

We seek creative and dynamic applicants who will continue to build our geotechnical and geo-environmental programs and our growing interdisciplinary infrastructure research group with a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, research and scholarship, and professional service activities. Our strategic vision includes strong research themes in 1) resilient civil infrastructure, 2) intelligent and interconnected systems, and 3) innovative materials. Expertise and research focus may include fundamental soil mechanics, in-situ and laboratory testing, innovative data collection and sensor networks/instrumentation technology, slope stability mitigation, interdisciplinary energy and sustainability advances, probabilistic assessment of human-made and natural geo-hazards, and/or bio-geo engineering and mediation. This position will seek to collaborate with Departmental strengths in structural or environmental areas and in developing college-wide strengths in sensor networks, data monitoring/mining, materials, or computational work, as well as pursuing research connections with faculty in mathematics, geology, biology, or architecture.

The position will teach both undergraduate and graduate courses and will develop an externally-sponsored research program aligned with regional and national priorities and policies. The position requires an earned doctorate in civil engineering or closely related field.

Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement

The starting annual salary rate for this position will be negotiated dependent upon qualifications and experience, wtih an excellent benefits package including 95% premium paid healthcare; a generous retirement package; and reduced tuition rates for employee, spouse, our dependant at any of the Oregon Public Universities.
