In the School of Gender, Race and Nations, the Department of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies offers an interdisciplinary program designed to foster students’ personal and intellectual development and to prepare them for socially responsible citizenship as well as a broad range of careers. The department offers two different majors: the Women’s Studies major, and the Sexuality, Gender, and Queer Studies major. Experiential learning plays an important role in a student’s progress through the women, gender, and sexuality studies curriculum. The department’s extensive and long-established ties with organizations in the Portland area provide wide-ranging opportunities for students to apply their classroom knowledge in a community setting.

Position Summary

The PSU Department of Women, Gender, & Sexualty Studies invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track Senior Instructor I to begin December 16, 2017. This position is a nine-month, renewable appointment; the teaching load includes 9 courses (3 courses/quarter).

The successful candidate will be a feminist, queer educator specializing in sexuality and queer studies who can contribute to the new Sexuality, Gender, and Queer Studies major. The SGQS major centers a critical approach to queer and sexuality studies with an emphasis on queer of color, indigenous, transnational, and intersectional approaches, integrating interdisciplinary theoretical and activist perspectives. Responsibilities include teaching multiple sections of the Gender and Sexualities Studies Sophomore Inquiry course (SINQ), plus introductory and upper-division courses for the SGQS major. This position reports to the WGSS department chair.

Primary Activity I - Instructional
Minimum Qualifications

MA or PhD in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, or related field.

Specialization in queer and sexuality studies.

Previous experience teaching gender and sexuality courses in both general education and WGS programs at the university level is required.

Successful completion of a background check.

Environmental Stewardship
Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement

The starting annual salary rate for this position will be between $49,000 and $51,000, dependent upon qualifications and experience, with an excellent benefits package including 95% premium paid healthcare; a generous retirement and vacation package; and reduced tuition rates for employee, spouse or dependent at any of the Oregon Public Universities.
