Facilities and Property Management (FPM) serves all members of the Portland State University (PSU) community. FPM takes a tremendous amount of pride providing an appealing campus environment in a professional and
friendly fashion. The facilities and grounds at PSU consist of over 5 million square feet of facilities and approximately 50 acres of grounds and are the university’s largest asset. FPM is charged with the stewardship of this asset which contributes to attracting and retaining students, faculty and staff.

The department staff works together as a dedicated team to create and maintain a superior and vibrant urban
campus learning environment.

Position Summary

Facilities and Property Management is responsible for nine residential buildings on campus. The Housing Trades/Maintenance Worker 2 performs semi-skilled work assisting journey level trades people, working independently on a daily basis and prioritizes and completes tasks with minimal supervision.

The Housing Trades/Maintenance Worker 2 often works cooperatively with other members of Facilities and Property Management to achieve shared goals and is expected to accept, learn and adapt to new technology, maintain high professional standards through continual skill development and adhere to PSU uniform and conduct standards.

Primary Activity A - Administrative
Minimum Qualifications from Classification

-Three years of general building maintenance experience in one or more of the following trade areas: carpentry, electrical, mechanical, painting, plumbing, and welding.

NOTE: Some positions may require licensure or certification in a specific trade area.

Additional Minimum Qualifications for this Position

Must be able to perform in a stressful, fast-paced environment.
Must have excellent customer service skills and sensitivity to student schedules.
Must be a team player.
Must be able to be on-call and respond to after-hours emergencies.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
Must pass a criminal background check.
Must be able to share rotation with the on-call pager.
Must be familiar with work order database management systems.
Must be able to write clearly and precisely.
Must have three years’ experience maintaining and repairing equipment.
Must have three years’ experience working both independently and as part of a maintenance team.
Must have three years’ experience prioritizing daily work load.

Preferred Qualifications

Three years’ experience in a multifamily, residential environment, preferably in a university setting.

Experience maintaining university residence halls.

Environmental Stewardship
Work Days/Hours 40 hours per week (schedule to be determined)
Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement

The starting salary rate for this position will be between $14.74 and $19.03 per hour, dependent upon qualifications and experience, (plus a monthly retention bonus equal to ten percent (10%) of salary), with an excellent benefits package including 95% premium paid healthcare; a generous retirement and vacation package; and reduced tuition rates for employee, spouse or dependent at any of the Oregon Public Universities.

Pay Range Between $14.74 and $19.03 per hour, dependent upon qualifications and experience, plus a monthly retention bonus equal to ten percent (10%) of salary.
