Position Summary

Brief Description of PSU/School/Dept

Located in Portland, Oregon, one of the nation’s most livable cities, Portland State has an innovative approach to education that combines academic rigor in the classroom with field-based experiences through internships and classroom projects with community partners. Position Summary

Serves as the point person for hiring, onboarding, and processing payroll for all student employees in the library. Uses Student Information System to check minimum enrollment and work study eligibility. Staffs the Circulation Desk, implements all library policies and procedures, and provide service to all patrons of the library. Coordinates the work of up to 10 student employees. Follows all opening and closing procedures when scheduled, and participates in cash counting operations. Assists with Summit and Course Reserves processing as needed. Completes other tasks such as labeling, updating records, and processing holds.

Primary Activity A - Administrative
Minimum Qualifications from Classification
  • Bachelors degree plus two years of current (within 5 years) experience in a Library; OR ,
  • 4 years of current library experience;
  • AND , advanced proficiency in multiple library specific computer applications, e.g., integrated library systems, database applications, institutional repository; content management systems.
  • Some positions may also require in-depth knowledge of specialty area(s), e.g., original cataloging, complex copy cataloging, serials management, ILL management, government documents, image resources, music.
Additional Minimum Qualifications for this Position
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse staff and user base.
  • Ability to organize time effectively and handle detailed materials processing routines effectively and accurately.
  • Ability to be self-motivated and willing to accept responsibility to perform routine tasks without close supervision.
  • Experience supervising student employees.
  • Customer service experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in an Orbis-Cascade Alliance library.

Environmental Stewardship
Work Days/Hours Monday – Friday, 8:30am-5:30pm. Occasional evening/weekend shifts may be required.
Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement

Starting hourly rate is $15.97 with an excellent benefits package including 95% premium paid healthcare; a generous retirement and vacation package; and reduced tuition rates for employee, spouse or dependent at any of the Oregon Public Universities.
