Facilities and Property Management (FPM) serves all members of the Portland State University (PSU) community. FPM takes a tremendous amount of pride providing an appealing campus environment in a professional and friendly fashion. The facilities and grounds at PSU consist of over 5 million square feet of facilities and approximately 50 acres of grounds and are the university’s largest asset. FPM is charged with the stewardship of this asset which contributes to attracting and retaining students, faculty and staff. The department staff works together as a dedicated team to create and maintain a superior and vibrant urban campus learning environment.

Position Summary

The Parking General Maintenance Mechanic performs skilled journey-level work in the maintenance and repair of the University’s parking facilities.

The position works independently on a daily basis and prioritizes and completes tasks with minimal supervision. The position often works collaboratively with other members of Facilities and Property Management to achieve shared goals.

The person in this position supervises a number of student maintenance employees and maintains high professional standards.

Minimum Qualifications from Classification

-Four years of experience maintaining, repairing, and fabricating parts for machinery, tools, and equipment such as automobiles, trucks, hydraulic systems, lift trucks, etc.; OR

-Completion of an approved Mechanical Maintenance Apprenticeship Program.

Additional Minimum Qualifications for this Position

Proficiency in using computerized maintenance management software (CMMS) systems for managing work projects.

Ability and licensing to use a motorized vehicle on public right of way and city streets.

Proficiency in using Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, Word and email programs.

Excellent customer service skills for internal and external customers, including faculty, staff, students, co-workers and managers.

Successful completion of a background check.

Preferred Qualifications

Journeyman Limited Energy Electrical License or
General Journeyman Electrical License.

Work Days/Hours 40 hours per week (schedule to be determined)
Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement

The starting salary rate for this position will be between $18.19 and $19.95 per hour, dependent upon qualifications and experience, (plus a monthly retention bonus equal to ten percent (10%) of salary), with an excellent benefits package including 95% premium paid healthcare; a generous retirement and vacation package; and reduced tuition rates for employee, spouse or dependent at any of the Oregon Public Universities.

Pay Range Between $18.19 and $19.95 per hour, dependent upon qualifications and experience (plus a monthly retention bonus equal to ten percent (10%) of salary)
