Position Summary

Brief Description of PSU/School/Dept

Portland State University, with an enrollment of approximately 30,000 students, serves the Portland metropolitan area, which is a vibrant and growing community with a culturally diverse population of 1.5 million people. The Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences is a vibrant department, serving over 80 graduate students and 220 undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students a year. The department offers a graduate program educating future speech-language pathologists, as well as an undergraduate degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences and a post-baccalaureate program preparing students to enter graduate level work in a variety of fields, especially speech-language pathology and audiology. SPHR faculty include 8 tenure-line research faculty and 8 clinical faculty, and adjunct faculty. With strong connections to the surrounding community, the department strives to provide a strong educational curriculum preparing students to enter careers and graduate level work in a variety of fields.

Position Summary

The Department of Speech & Hearing Sciences at Portland State University invites applications for a non tenure-track 9-month position at the Clinical Assistant Professor level, beginning as early as December 16, 2017. The PSU campus, located in the heart of Portland, the SPHR faculty and diverse student body, and the longstanding relationships with excellent educational and medical settings provide a dynamic work setting. A non-tenure track faculty appointment for individuals who are licensed or certified professionals or practitioners recognized within professional fields. Unique discipline-specific criteria for professional certification may be defined by departments for classification of professors of practice and clinical professors. The major responsibilities involve the education and support of students/learners in academic, clinical, and/or practice settings, supervising clinical experiences, and/or professionally related community engagement. Ranks for these appointments are Professor of Practice/Clinical Professor, Associate Professor of Practice/ Associate Clinical Professor, Assistant Professor of Practice/ Assistant Clinical Professor.

Primary Activity I - Instructional
Minimum Qualifications

- Master’s degree in Speech & Hearing Sciences, Speech-Language Pathology, or equivalent

- At least 3 years of post-certification clinical experience as a speech-language pathologist

- Experience teaching at the higher education level

- Clinical experience focused on pediatric populations

- Certification of clinical competence from the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association

- Eligible to be licensed as a speech-language pathologist in the state of Oregon

- Valid State-issued driver’s license

- Successful completion of a background check

Preferred Qualifications

- Priority will be given to candidates who have clinical and/or teaching experience in the following areas: speech and language development and disorders, multicultural topics, professionalism.

- At least 5 years of post-certification clinical experience as a speech-language pathologist

- Demonstrated use of evidence-based practice methodologies in assessment and treatment

- Experience working in educational settings as a speech-language pathologist

- Terminal degree in speech-language pathology or related field

Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement

The starting annual salary rate for this position will be $58,545, with an excellent benefits package including 95% premium paid healthcare; a generous retirement and vacation package; and reduced tuition rates for employee, spouse or dependent at any of the Oregon University System schools.
